The Fiscal Shrikes has graced our garden for many years. With much less food in winter, they battle to feed their young. They absolutely love the shredded cheese that I put out for them, but careful not too make them too dependent on humans providing for them.
They were some of the first birds that followed me around, land on my head at times, pulling at my hair to the amusement of my family. One young one followed us into the house and would peck cheese out of our hands.
I was a bit sad when the next generation did not pick up their parent's trust in humans, but realized that it was safer for them that way. Not all people act kindly towards the winged beauties that visit us.
